Egmont Books visit

Rachel took thirteen Falmouth Illustration students  to meet a number of art directors at Egmont Books. This important children’s book publisher has become a regular visit for Falmouth students in recent years. It is a really valuable connection for which we are very grateful.

Falmouth students were treated to an extended 2 hour + series of generous and insightful  talks by Tiffany Leeson, Laura and Sam (young audience) and Rebecca and Abby (Children’s picture books) that opened up the whole process of creating a book from sourcing an illustrator to the delivery of artwork.

Also good work from the students who asked great questions.

Falmouth Students Visit Penguin Books & Egmont

Student from Falmouth BA Illustration visited both Penguin Books and Egmont Childrens Book Publisher today.

Senior designers Chris and Jill were able to stand in at the last minute for ex Falmouth student Richard bravery who was ill today (get well soon Richard). Chris and Jill did a great job of outlining the processes that underpin the design of book covers and how illustrators can get their work in front of the designers at Penguin.

The visit to Egmont was great. Tiffany Leeson, art director and the team gave a wonderfully informative presentation on Childrens books from pre school to young adult, both fiction and nonfiction, focussing on the commissioning of illustrators. Many thanks….

More Visits for Falmouth Students (Egmont Children’s Books and The Telegraph)

The creative team at Egmont Children’s Books went out of their way to present our students with an insightful view of the various facets of this successful publishing company.

A couple of hours after the Egmont visit Sue and a group of six students arrived at the Telegraph for a meeting with Art Director, Gary Cochrane. This visit was a real eye opener for students who were taken into the heart of one of the UKs most established broad sheet newspapers. Editorial illustration remains an important component of the course at Falmouth and this visit was great opportunity to ask an experienced art director the kind of questions that only an art director can answer.

Thanks Gary and also the team at Egmont
