Day One NY 2016

Driving into Manhattan is still as exciting as ever though with huge skyscrapers eventually blocking out the night sky as we approached our destination. After arriving  at the YMCA pretty late (10pm local time, 3am UK time!) most of chose to get some sleep straight away.

Day one involves upto 5 visits. 11am sees students visiting Hard Hat Design. Hardhat is a boutique, award winning, multi-disciplinary creative agency based in Brooklyn. At 3pm students visit Patrick Crotty from PEOW. PEOW is a studio that specialise in comic book publishing and Risograph printing. At 3pm a group of students will visit Chase Design Group. Chase Design Group is a creative agency with offices in California and New York. Then at 5.30pm students visit Vault 49, an award winning New York agency who create branding, advertising, design and art. Its also hoped that some students will be able to visit Nobrow’s NY office subject to confirmation. Good luck to everyone. We hopefully will be able to share images of the visits as and when they come in…

New York 2016 Here We Come…

This is the first posting for a number of months. Apologies for taking so long since the last update. So much has happened since the last time I posted including the 2nd year trip to Berlin. 3rd years travelling to the Bologna Book fair. The MA Illustration Forum (entitled ‘Blue’). Visits by David Doran and his agent Matthew Shearer, the first years Project X outcomes, and the publication of ‘Wunderkammer’, our exciting replacement for the popular ‘Quotes & Sayings’ books.

Postings on all of these events, including photos, will take place over the next few weeks, but the focus of the blog for the next week will be this year’s New York Study Trip. As I write this we (48 Falmouth Illustration students plus) are 36,000 feet over the Atlantic. The students have done a great job in organising themselves in preparation for the trip. An impressive thirty visits have been organised, covering all areas of the industry, including visits to; Chase Design Group, Vault 49, Bust Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Mendola Illustration Agency, Penguin Books, Plan Sponsor, Scholastic, Littlebrown Books and Farrar, Strauss, Giroux and more…

I will update as often as possible during the week. Good luck to our students visiting London too….
